Birthday delights

An absolute corker of a cake made by the creative duo Tim and Natasha. This modular synth cake made Leigh's night!

And a birthday gift of antique barometer to monitor the weather and atmospheric pressure.

Land to water

We have our hands upon a lovely little white van and I have taken on the persona of van driver rather well. This has been day three of shifting stuff and both Leigh and I are feeling the pull on our bodies. We are half way there having moved the boat to a better position so we can pull up the van next to the hatch on the boat.

We have cleared all the odds and ends from the boat (just the last bits in the galley area to do) and already it is begining to look like home!

It's Leigh's Birthday on Tuesday so tomorrow should be another trip to the tip and then party time begins, that is until Wednesday when it'll more than likely be back to the van for the big stuff (bed, sofa) and the ends of the kitchen bits, clothes, some garden pots, oh and Delia!

All this hard work today, Leigh made me finally sit down out on the stern and what a perfect time as the sun was settling down.

Crocuses a-coming out

I looked from the window of the flat only to see shades of violet and white litter the grass in our garden. Could it be? Ah the Crocuses have come out for their annual peek-a-boo!

and of course, the big move continues....

Delay through the door

Looky what came through the post! For my musical antics in Bitumen (the band) I have decided to build my own delay pedal. So I went for this one from Build Your Own Clone. It looks pretty fiddly but after the Nocto Loco and the Phantastron, I'm up for the challenge. All I need now is some more free time to get this made...

Knitty Bitty

After a while away from the needles I decided I would have a look for a good start up book on knitting. Leigh's mum had lent me one previously which allowed me to learn the basics, casting on, binding off, knit, purl, patterns, and cabling, but without this aid I was a little lost as to how to even begin. Watersotnes had a good collection and so I went for one entitled "Knitting in no time" by Melody Griffiths. It has a section at the back dedicated to the above basics with good illustrations and this was a great reminder.

The book has 50 quick-ish projects, some are ghastly, some are great, to get the clickty-clacks going again it is absolutly fine overall. Pictured above is my first creation from the book. A knitted mini-bag from left overs. I realised that I had cut the handle 1 mtr too short after I made it and Leigh suggested it would make a fine clutch bag for my little niece (aged 5) who dresses like she is in the pink army. I do agree.

Well, with the movement of knitting again back at my finger-tips the next project begins with a skinny scarf from Monday's wool, Debbie Bliss's Baby cashmerino in a lovely orange.

Tesla treats

I have not made the radio club for too long, but that is the deal with shift working at the mo. I have just heard news from John regarding a recent electronic fest involving experiments with home built Tesla coils in sonic creation. Yes, it sounds absolutly brilliant! So I followed the link to the organizers homepage, Extreme Electronics and look what I saw...

What a way to brighten a day - inspiration! The electrical planet comes to life!

"Body Modification Monday" - AH

Monday last week was one of the best days I've had in a long time. My most lovely friend Amy came to see me for a day of fun and frolics. This is how it went...

Ring, ring, "hello my dear friend, yes do come in", tea and muffins, laughter, aviator tatoo, possible naked man, laughter, cat loving, car, laughter, fetch tights, cat loving, in to tahn. Tights, bad hats, beautiful expensive dresses, Debbie Bliss wool, fabrics, pollyfilla, prisoners, Homemade food, wedding chatter, laughter, laughter, tatooists - Bodycraft for some crafty tish-tash colouring in, clingfilm, tatooists - Access All Areas...

from a ring to a spike I've uped the risk assessment at work!

...Vivian Westwood, singing, the chocolate man, little chocolates, tea, theatre natter, The Molten Gods, tits and lips, laughter and a massive hug farewell!

Phew! It was swell!

The moves begin

I love our flat. I have spent the day capturing all the nooks and crannies that make it our home, exploring the poetics of our space. This is a beautiful building we have been resident in and sadly it is decaying beyond repair. Not our doing, it is rented accommodation and barely maintaned. However it is still majestic and ornately designed and considered.

We are in between places as our belongings are being boxed up and excess things given away at charity shops and using the joy of Freecycle.

And so the beauty of the place we will eventually leave behind tells it's tale...
