Leaving Nottingham for London

We decided to leave Nottingham on my birthday which made it an extra lovely day, cruising down the canal. The plan is to head for Trent Lock along the Trent and Mersey canal, leaving Nottingham, through Beeston, Cramfleet and arriving at the big junction. From here, we'll take the River Soar through Redhill and on to the Grand Union Canal for Loughborough.

Being 65foot makes it a bit of an ordeal to find a winding spot to turn the boat around for the direction we want. Fortunately in Nottingham there are frequent spots and not too far from the city centre. As we were on route to the winding point we picked up a fellow boater and gave a lift to his abode.

The dragon flies and damsel flies were out in full force on the journey - I've never seen so many of these happy, magical creatures in all my life!

We needed to fill up the tank with red diesel and stopped at Beeston marina where they fortunately saw us coming down the river and stayed open.

The tank being 150 litres was full by about 40 litres, so we filled her up to the top - after all we wouldn't want to get caught short on the river now.

We took the familar route along the Trent and Mersey, through the deep lock at Cramfleet and...

we reached the boat club at Trent Lock by early evening.

Little Delia (with a big attitude) was delighted that I scooped her up from inside the boat and held her in my lap for the duration of Trent Lock. Her nose was sniffing like she was in a cat food factory!

We took the River Soar navigation

and set on for Redhill Marina overlooking the powerstation.

We decided to moor for the night just through the flood lock.

This marina we know well from our building work and mooring facilities before we move aboard. It has a great trainlink to Nottingham and as I was working the following day it made sense to spend the night here.

The next day after work we had some visitors and I had a spot of soldering to do - their other car locking remote had gone up the blink. This time though I did a spot of 'Wild Soldering' - That is outdoors!

I'd fixed it in no time!
